What is a clinical trial?

A clinical trial is a research study involving human volunteers intended to add to medical knowledge. Trials test new drugs, medical devices, procedures, or behavioral interventions to evaluate their safety and effectiveness. There are two main types: interventional studies (which test a treatment) and observational studies (which collect data without intervening).
